StaticsBoy: The Rising Sound of Mzansi
South Africa’s music scene has never been more alive, and one of the voices adding fresh energy to it is StaticsBoy. Born and raised in Tsakane, StaticsBoy has steadily built a reputation as an audio engineer and versatile producer, blending authentic South African roots with forward-looking soundscapes.
🌟 Finding Their Sound
“I started music at a very young age. I still remember when I was in Grade 2, I would take my sister's phone and record myself rapping and singing. By Grade 4, I started making sounds using the school decks, and my classmates would dance to it. It was crazy and fun at the same time — I knew this was my path.”
Drawing inspiration from artists across different genres, their sound is a reflection of both heritage and modern rhythms.
🎵 The Latest Drop
StaticsBoy’s most recent project, “O.U.A.T¹ EP (Once Upon a Time) Volume¹”, dropped on HearThis and has already caught attention for its unique vibe and collaborations.
“Once Upon a Time (O.U.A.T) EP is the first chapter of all the trials and tribulations I faced on this musical journey. This project is specially dedicated to my family, my supporters, and to everyone in the world. The EP has six songs plus a bonus track. The artists I’ve worked with are Delatouree, Barbie Ana, NaqTshabalala, and Sky Da Vocalist. Music is a beautiful gift from God. I keep learning every day; with music, I stopped wishing life was better and started doing better.”
🚀 What’s Next
Looking ahead, StaticsBoy is busy with O.U.A.T² EP and a hip hop/trap EP titled “Bullie Season”, featuring artists like Siso Macleft, Esh, and MurgeBlack. Fans can expect a new wave of experimental beats and storytelling-driven ambition in the coming months.
“I’m working on something that blends amapiano with soul, and I can’t wait to share it.”
💬 Beyond the Music
